A bashing Bday

This post is dedicated to Apna (Translation : Our own) Dood Mr.V.
He turned a year old last week.

As usual all the doods @ "Nagu" had already started talking about it from the start of last week itself. People here were remembering all the Bday bashes that Mr.V had presented them all on their Bdays. They were in full josh (Translation : excitement) to return back the favor.

A bday bash is an act when all the four limbs of the body which is facing skyward, are pulled outward from the body in such equilibrium that the body balances in free air just on the tangential force of the limbs. Then fast moving objects are made to collide with the center of the body from beneath with great momentum and sometimes accessories also. Though I have just been a mere spectator for quite a few Bday bashes, people at the heart of the things say its an experience. Everyone should enjoy it once !!!

The so called preparations started on the previous evening . Another Dood n me met up at the Koramangala Sweet Chariot. Got a bday cake packed for the night. We couldn't restrain ourselves from munching something there while the cake was getting packed. He took a lemon cheese cake and Me a Chocolate Mousse. The lemon cheese was a lil sour (I couldn't resist taking a bite!) but Choca mousse was awesome!!! It was quite filling also. Finally it turned out that the dood with me was chaloo(Translation:witty) enough to declare that the pastries were my treat and I paid the bill ;-(

We came home. The bday boy was already home. He was supposedly watching TV. But we know what he does in the evenings. 10 fingers are not enough for him to manage five and odd SMS chat sessions in parallel. I think he saw the parcel in my hand. But did not comment. The cook was already preparing the dinner. In some time, all other doods also trickled in. All of us had dinner. N four of us sat down for a game of carrom. (We had to kill time till 12.) Anyways carrom has become a regular every evening nowadays. A vociferous episode of BIG Boss was running in the background. The fifth dood was busy with his call center ;-)

As time passed by, we tried to do all sorts of things to keep ourselves busy till the D-day dawned. Watched TV, Pulled each other’s legs with some dirty pranks... Argued on some irrelevant topics... Finally the clock struck 11.55 PM

And from nowhere all the doods arranged in the middle of Nagu and made sure Mr.V was at the centre... Wished him heartily.....

The Sweet Chariot cake was brought to the middle... He cut it. And no sooner had he cut it........ Before even biting it... some four hands were into the cake and the cream was on Mr.V's face. He was crying that let at least the dress be spared... But no one was hearing him. We were in our own world. I was the official photographer for the event....... so was savoring every moment without actually getting entangled with the things. BTW the pics will be uploaded shortly....

Once the Cake smearing session was over, everybody had a bite. Mr.V helped himself at the wash basin....
He finished the cleaning session and came back to the hall.

The eagerly awaiting vultures (The doods) caught hold of their prey and treated him for some Bday bash which I have explained earlier... It went on for some time and finally every one was exhausted and left Mr.V alone. He had some calls to attend also... ;-) We left him for the good and hit our beds.......

If you are still wondering what the bday bash is...its more commonly termed as birthday bumps ;-)

Right in the Night??

It was a cold December night in Bangalore. Though the residential Koramangala was already sound asleep, lights still lingered on at Nagu (Translation:Smile - The name of our house)... As usual the five doods (Actually it is dudes, which has got worn out over time and excessive usage) were chatting at the centre stage of Nagu.... The idiot box was still on with volume trimmed down as the sixth dood was asleep. A one and a half hour of WWE had just completed and the doods were getting ready to do some serious study.....

11.30 PM
DHADDAAAAARRRRRRRRRR...... Looked like there was a big crash somewhere in the nearby surroundings... Initial thoughts were that the Electric transformer next to Nagu had exploded... But the lights in the house were still on.... So it couldn't be the transformer.... Everybody from the chatting session sprang to their feet and hit the road.... Everything seemed Normal... No sign of any explosion or anything. Attention got diverted to the adjoining Main road. People were running with their night dresses on. Something had happened .... The doods followed... Nagu was left ajar...

11.35 PM
There was already a big jantha (Translation: Gathering) as soon as the doods came to the main road. There was a toppled luggage rickshaw (The tri-wheeler with the luggage trolley at the back), with people atop trying to pull out somebody/something. After some serious digging in, three well built men pulled out a guy in his mid twenties weighing quite heavy. From no where people started screaming “Neeru … Neeru” (Translation: Water). Me and another dood went back to Nagu picked up a bottle of water and came back…..

11.45 PM
We returned to the main road with 2 L bottle of water. The crowd had grown. The rickshaw was back on its wheels upright with its side panels dangling on either side. The hefty guy who was pulled out was sitting on the foot path surrounded by people. He was waning in pain….. Looked like he was holding on to something in his left hand. Then we realized that it was his broken right hand. It was broken right at the middle of the fore arm. He was under such extreme pain that he didn’t drink the water. People around him called an auto–rickshaw. Accompanied that guy with two other people and sent him to the nearest hospital.
All this while the number of onlookers picked up and the situation was heading for a traffic jam.
Then one guy who was limping got into the now upright rickshaw and started it. To every one’s surprise it roared to life. He drove it off the main road and parked it on the side road. He was accompanied by two of his other friends who were bruised on their limbs.

12.00 Midnight
We the doods were watching all this and still trying to assess how the accident could have occurred. The police Bolero came along. A traffic inspector I think got out. A senior person in the crowd was explaining the situation. Looked like a case of drunken driving … The people in that vehicle did not seem to be in their senses. Then as one of the injured explained…. There was a new stone divider which was put on the main road very recently. There were no indicators/markers depicting the divider. So this rickshaw in the dark drove over the divider and lost balance and toppled. The driver (the hefty guy) was stuck beneath the auto and was injured.

12.10 AM
The police by then had started clearing off the people. We came back to Nagu… exchanged our views about it for some time and hit the bed.

So that leaves us with the question that has been in my mind since two days? So how safe do we in India drive during the night? What are the traffic rules that we fail to follow just because its night and there are no cops to catch us? Then the big question Why do people after so many incidents still drink and drive at the cost of their and co-passenger’s lives?

So as proud owners of our vehicles are we being RIGHT, IN THE NIGHT???

Gadgets are making life easier or lazier??

After all the hype n gaga over the blog inauguration and the first post...... here comes a slightly serious one....

My cell phone conked off over the weekend.... had to get used to the features of the flicked one from my bro. Developed the skills to get used to this bare basic mobile. But even after a day's possession, I still dont realize that my phone is ringing... ;-) It will take time......
After all the experiments I did on my cell like flashing the OS n stuff.... inspired from E398modders.com (Damn good site!), I knew that this was coming.... but didnt expect it to be so early and untimely....

This unexpected turn of event arose in me the question of how addicted to are we to our gadgetery?
Dictionary.com refers gadgets as "A small specialized mechanical or electronic device; a contrivance." Contrivance is a device that is very useful for a particular job.
Let me start of with listing all the so called gadgets we use - "Cell phone/PDA, PC/laptop, ipod/Mp3 player, TV, remote controls...etc" So have we really got addicted to these or can we live without these...... One needs to distinguish between necessity and addiction.
We started using things because we needed them. We found a utility in them..... But we have got so used to using these that now we cannot live without them. The necessities have slowly transformed into addictions. To talk to my colleague on the other end of my room I use my phone.... Lazy enough to walk up to him. The attitude is like "when I have them why shouldn't I use it?" But then the real problem comes when I don't have them. Then I cannot get the job done because I am either too disinterested to do it without the gadget or I have forgotten/dont know how to do it.....
This I think is a lil sorry state of affairs to deal with.... I definitely feel that as the technology keeps growing to make our life easier, we are getting lazier adopting this technology........

A new chapter begins.....

Hi....
Finally am here... in the whole new world of blogs....

On a day which started with a rejuvenating drive up the Devarayana Durga hills.

It was a cold misty morning when I joined my freinds 20 mins late at the designated waiting place... Drove through the woods of NamadaChilume turning off the music in the car to a zero. Stopped by our regular viewpoint on the way.... where we realized that our cameras were safe n secure in our house cupboards ;-(..... An inspiration to comeback n capture the winter morning next week....
Drove all the way upto the radio tower.... spent about an hour chatting with frens above the mist/fog/clouds.... Tested my fren's new Esteem... Nice car with a very clear view for the driver.

Was back in BLR by afternoon in anticipation of the match....
As most of the times off late.... a good opening was squanderd away by the Indians.... The last few overs of the SA innings were so dismal that I dozed of to wake up only to watch sehwag being held on the ropes.....
The batting crumbled except for the WALL standing tall.........
Overall we were OK compared to Durban Drubbing but a lot of catching needs to be done if we even have to compete in this series.......

Signing off for now,
Praveen
