Rekindling...
So its been a while and now I am thinking of getting back to blogging...
Usually people on comeback trails list what happened between their last post and now, But I wouldn't go there as the list is too big.
But one change of significance is: Its "We" instead of "I" now :D.
Its Makara Sankranthi today and we had a mid week off. Spent a relaxing day at home. We tried some experiments with preparing the spicy and sweet pongal. The sweet one exceeded expectations. One of the best I had till date :).
I was just looking up wiki on the significance of the festival. ( Not that I did not know, But I have got addicted to looking up everything in wiki ). And I was pleasantly pleased at the level of details that it describes, making sure that ethnicity of such articles is not lost.
To quote - "On this auspicious day, young females (kids & teenagers) wear new clothes to visit near and dear ones with a Sankranti offering in a plate, and exchange the same with other families. This ritual is called "Ellu Birodhu." Here the plate would normally contain "Ellu" (white sesame seeds) mixed with fried groundnuts (kadale kai), neatly cut copra (kobbari) & fine cut jaggery (bella). The mixture is called "Ellu Bella" (ಎಳ್ಳು ಬೆಲ್ಲ). The plate will also contain sugar candy moulds of various forms (Sakkare Acchu, ಸಕ್ಕರೆ ಅಚ್ಚು) with a piece of sugarcane. This signifies the harvest of the season, since sugarcane is predominant in these parts."
For somebody new to Karnataka and Kannadiga culture this insight is awesome!!!
Wikipedia is the free encyclopedia. It can only get better from everybody's contribution. So please share your knowledge :)
